Pilgrim's Guide – Monasteries of Fruška Gora

Departure: Valjevo – Šabac – Ruma – Fruška Gora – Šid – return to Valjevo This guide is designed as a practical map and spiritual guide for visiting the greatest sanctuaries of Fruška Gora in one day. The order of monasteries follows the natural direction of movement from the eastern part of the mountain to the west to avoid returning the same way. Order of monastery visits: 1. Ravanica Monastery (Vrdnik) Known as Sremska Ravanica. One of the most revered monasteries in Srem. Throughout history, the relics of Prince Lazar were kept here when they were transferred from the original Ravanica during times of great historical suffering. 2. Novo Hopovo Monastery One of the most significant monasteries of Fruška Gora. The relics of Saint Theodore Tiron, an early Christian martyr and soldier, are kept in the monastery. It was an important spiritual center where Dositej Obradović took monastic vows. 3. Staro Hopovo Monastery A smaller and older monastery near Novo Hopovo. Associated with Saint Maksim Branković and known for the peace and quiet that prevail in this place. 4. Krušedol Monastery A legacy of the Branković family and one of the most significant monasteries of Fruška Gora. Members of the Branković dynasty and Patriarch Arsenije III Čarnojević, the leader of the Great Migration of the Serbs, are buried here. 5. Velika Remeta Monastery One of the oldest monasteries on Fruška Gora. It is particularly known for its tall bell tower, unique among the monasteries of Fruška Gora. Surrounded by dense forests, it is a very peaceful place for prayer. 6. Grgeteg Monastery A large monastic complex located deep in the forest. Known for its beautiful frescoes, large courtyard, and long spiritual tradition. 7. Jazak Monastery A great sanctuary as it houses the relics of Emperor Uroš Nemanjić, the last emperor of the Nemanjić dynasty. Many believers come to pay homage to his relics. 8. Đipša Monastery A monastery with a long history that has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. Today, it is a quiet and secluded monastery surrounded by the nature of Fruška Gora. 9. Kuveždin Monastery A historical monastery that suffered in wars but has been restored. Known for its old icons and significant role in the spiritual life of Srem. 10. Petkovica Monastery A monastery dedicated to Saint Petka. It contains old frescoes and a long monastic tradition. Believers often come to pray to Saint Petka. 11. Šišatovac Monastery A monastery where Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović resided for a time. It is one of the significant spiritual centers of Fruška Gora. 12. Beočin Monastery One of the largest monasteries of Fruška Gora. Known for its large iconostasis and beautiful monastic complex. In the past, it was an important spiritual and cultural center. 13. Privina Glava Monastery Known for its holy spring and the custom of immersion in water. Believers come to pray and to wash or immerse themselves in water believed to have healing powers. 14. Bešenovo Monastery An old monastery that suffered greatly during World War II, and is being restored today. The icon of Saint Mardarije is particularly revered. 15. Monastery of Saint Petka (Berkasovo) Known for the holy spring of Saint Petka. Believers come to pray and wash with holy water.
